Ontario heat pump rebates for 2026 stack two programs. Enbridge Home Efficiency Rebate Plus (HER+) pays up to $7,100 when a cold-climate heat pump replaces gas. The Home Renovation Savings Program (HRSP) adds $5,000-$10,000 depending on efficiency tier and household income. Combined, up to $14,100, and 40-60% of the install cost is commonly offset. We book the audits, fill the applications and submit them on your behalf. Toronto, Markham, Mississauga, anywhere we work in the GTA.
How do the two rebate programs stack?
| Program | Who it’s for | Up to |
|---|---|---|
| Enbridge HER+ | Gas-heated homes switching to a listed cold-climate heat pump | $7,100 |
| Oil-to-HP bonus | Oil-heated homes switching to a heat pump | $7,100 |
| Home Renovation Savings Program | Eligible Ontario homes, by efficiency tier and income | $5,000-$10,000 |
| Combined stack | HER+ or Oil-to-HP plus HRSP | $14,100 (up to $17,100 on some stacks) |
HER+ and the Oil-to-HP bonus are either/or, based on what you heat with today. HRSP layers on top. Your number depends on the equipment tier, your household income bracket and a clean audit trail. We run the math on the first visit. Oil homes, see oil to heat pump rebate Ontario.
What order do the steps go in?
Order is where people lose thousands.
- Pre-retrofit energy audit. A registered energy advisor visits, runs a blower door test and records the baseline. $400-$600, refunded upon install.
- Install a listed heat pump. Cold-climate, on the NEEP or NRCan lists, sized by Manual J. We photograph nameplates and keep every invoice.
- Post-retrofit audit. The advisor confirms the upgrade after commissioning.
- Applications submitted. HER+ (or Oil-to-HP) and HRSP, filled and submitted by us.
Install first and audit later, and the file is usually not eligible. We schedule the pre-audit before we even book your install day.
The most common mistake
Replacing a dead furnace in a panic and calling about rebates after. If your system is failing, call us first. We can often get a pre-audit booked fast and keep the heat on with a repair or temporary heat until install day.
Which heat pumps qualify?
Cold-climate air-source heat pumps on the program lists. In practice that means the models we already install for Toronto winters: Mitsubishi Hyper-Heat MSZ-FH, Daikin Fit DX17VSS and Fujitsu AOU-U36, plus qualifying central systems. EnergyStar Most Efficient units typically sit in the higher HRSP tier. Big-box mild-climate units often are not listed at all. See cold-climate heat pumps for the lineup.
Full-electric vs dual-fuel: how do rebates change?
The fuel-switch amount under HER+ is built around replacing gas heat with a cold-climate heat pump. A full-electric furnace to heat pump conversion usually qualifies for the larger number. A dual-fuel hybrid keeps the furnace, and eligibility differs. Neither is wrong. We show both quotes with the rebate on each so the trade-off is on paper.
What does it look like on a real invoice?
The East York case study on this page: post-war brick bungalow, converted from gas to a Daikin Fit DX17VSS 3-ton full-electric with an air handler. $15,400 installed before rebates. We booked the pre-audit before quoting install day, filed HER+ and HRSP after the post-audit, and the combined rebates covered 61% of the invoice. Your result depends on your home and program terms, but that is the shape of a well-run file.
Who qualifies?
- Ontario homeowners heating with natural gas (Enbridge customers) or oil
- Homes completing both the pre and post-retrofit audits
- Listed cold-climate equipment installed by a qualified contractor
- Condo suites and rentals: case by case, we check before quoting
