Our Story

Why a heat pump shop, in a city this cold?

Anthony Marino founded Toronto Heat Pump Pros in 2008, back when most Toronto contractors still told homeowners heat pumps didn't work here. They were half right. The mild-climate units being sold at the time did fail in a February cold snap, and the strip heat ran all month.

The equipment changed. Inverter-driven cold-climate models from Mitsubishi, Daikin and Fujitsu started holding full capacity at -15C and running to -30C. What didn't change fast enough was how they were sold: sized off square footage, installed by one trade with the electrical subcontracted, and rebates left for the homeowner to figure out.

So we built the shop the other way around. Manual J first. Cold-climate units only. Red Seal HVAC, TSSA gas and ESA electrical all in-house. A rebate coordinator whose whole job is getting the audits in the right order and the applications submitted. That's still the standard every job follows, from a basement mini-split in Trinity Bellwoods to a 42-unit condo program on Queens Quay.

The Standard

Four rules every job follows

01

Manual J before the quote

Every price starts with a written HRAI-method heat loss calculation. No square-foot guesses, no rounding up to be safe.

02

Cold-climate units only

Mitsubishi Hyper-Heat MSZ-FH, Daikin Fit DX17VSS, Fujitsu AOU-U36 for whole-home heat. 100% capacity at -15C, running to -30C.

03

Rebate paperwork submitted

Pre and post-retrofit audits booked, Enbridge HER+ and HRSP applications filled and submitted on the homeowner's behalf.

04

Nothing subcontracted

Red Seal HVAC, TSSA gas and ESA electrical on our own payroll. The crew that quotes the job does the job.

Shop Foreman

Schedules every crew, checks the Manual J against the equipment order and signs off each job before the truck leaves the shop.

Lead Installer

Red Seal HVAC. Runs install day: line sets, brazing under nitrogen, micron vacuum, commissioning and the homeowner walkthrough.

Service Technician

Handles diagnostics, no-heat calls and maintenance. Carries common Daikin, Mitsubishi and Fujitsu parts on the truck.

Rebate Coordinator

Books the pre and post-retrofit audits, fills the HER+ and HRSP applications and tracks each file until the cheque lands.

Credentials

Licensed for every trade on the job

A heat pump install touches refrigerant, electrical and often gas. Each needs its own ticket in Ontario. We hold all of them in-house, plus the contractor credentials the rebate programs look for.
