How does a heat pump water heater work?
Same idea as your home heat pump, pointed at a tank. A small compressor pulls heat out of the basement air and puts it into the water. That’s 2-3 times more efficient than an electric element on its own, by uniform energy factor (UEF). When the household needs a lot of hot water fast, hybrid element mode turns on the backup element for quicker recovery.
